Atypical transportation in Limassol caught our editorial team's attention. A construction truck was being transported on a low-bed trailer, with a person sitting in the cab at all times. Both vehicles were traveling in normal traffic.

It's unclear why the man remained in the vehicle he was transporting. Nor can we determine from photographs alone whether any specific regulations were violated. However, this type of travel raises obvious safety issues.

Transport in Limassol caught the attention of drivers

Transporting a heavy vehicle on a special trailer is not uncommon. This method is used to transport, among other things, disabled trucks, construction machinery, and vehicles that should not be allowed to travel on their own on the road.

What's surprising, however, is the presence of a person in the cab of the truck being transported. Both photos clearly show him sitting in the driver's seat. The photos were taken at two different points during the journey, so they weren't just about the moment of boarding or disembarking.

Why might staying in the cabin be dangerous?

A vehicle transported on a trailer effectively becomes cargo. It must be properly positioned and secured to prevent shifting during braking, acceleration, and cornering.

The occupant of the vehicle has no control over the route or behavior of the entire unit. They cannot independently react to sudden braking, a collision, a shifting of the transported vehicle, or a problem with its securing.

In the event of an accident or rollover, escaping from the cabin, which is located high above the ground, would be significantly more difficult. Assistance from emergency services would also be more complicated.

During loading, an operator may need to be present in the cab to guide the vehicle onto the platform, position the wheels, or brake in the correct position. However, once these operations are completed, the occupant of the transported vehicle should be able to safely exit the cab.

Is this behavior legal?

We found no publicly available regulation that would allow us to clearly classify this situation as a specific offense based on photos alone. Such an assessment would require knowledge of the transport conditions, the vehicle's security measures, and explanations from the driver and carrier.

The Cyprus Police or the Road Transport Department could decide whether the kit met all the requirements after conducting an inspection.

This doesn't change the fact that transporting a person in a vehicle on a trailer is very risky. The standard seating for people participating in a ride is in the vehicle pulling the combination, not inside the transported load.

Fuel savings or extreme irresponsibility?

It's difficult to determine whether the man remained in the cab out of convenience, lack of space in the tractor, the need to guard the vehicle, or for some other reason entirely. However, none of these explanations change the image visible in the photographs.

A multi-ton truck was traveling along a busy Limassol street, with another truck carrying a person on its trailer. It's one of those sights that can only be funny until it suddenly brakes or collides.

Without an official statement from the authorities, we won't be able to determine whether the law has been broken. However, from a safety perspective, it's difficult to consider remaining in the cab of a transporting truck a sensible idea.
