Thunderstorms and hail possible today. Temperature up to 39°C

An unstable air mass is affecting the weather today, Friday, August 14. Localized showers and thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and early afternoon, primarily in the mountains and inland. Hail is also possible during the storm.

Storms mainly in the mountains and inland of the island

Friday will be partly cloudy. During the day, as clouds develop over the mountainous areas and central parts of the island, scattered showers or thunderstorms may occur. The highest probability of such occurrences is around noon and the first part of the afternoon.

The Department of Meteorology also notes that during the storm hail cannot be ruled outThe phenomena are expected to be local in nature, so this does not mean that the weather will deteriorate simultaneously in all regions.

Still hot – up to 39°C

Despite greater atmospheric instability, temperatures will remain high.

Today, thermometers are expected to show approximately:

• 39°C in the interior of the island,
• 34°C on most of the coast,
• 30°C on the west and southwest coast,
• 28°C in the highest parts of the mountains.

The wind will be mainly southwesterly or northwesterly, light to moderate, with a Beaufort force of 3-4. It may occasionally increase to 4-5 on the southeast coast in the afternoon. The sea will be calm to slightly rough.

No new warning has been issued today

As of 6:58 a.m. Friday, August 14, on the official Department of Meteorology website, no new weather warnings have been issued for today's storms or temperatures.

The website still shows yellow warning number 52 for temperatures around 40°C inland, but it was in effect August 13th from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and it has already expired.

The possibility of local thunderstorms and hail is included in the official forecast issued today at 5:00 AM.

More clouds and possible fog in the evening

Cloud cover will remain heavy in places overnight. Localized fog or mist may develop in the morning.

The temperature will drop to approximately 23°C inland, 24°C on the coast and 20°C in the highest parts of the mountains.

Tomorrow, August 15, thunderstorms are also possible

Similar weather patterns will continue through the weekend and into Monday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain possible during the midday and early afternoon hours, primarily in the mountains and inland.

This is especially important tomorrow, August 15th, when many people traditionally go to the mountains, monasteries and picnic areas.

People planning a trip to Troodos should therefore take into account the possibility of a quick, local deterioration of the weather in the afternoon and afternoon hours.

After the heat, the cool down will come

Temperatures are expected to gradually drop over Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. According to the Department of Meteorology, by the end of this period, it will be slightly lower than the average climatic values for mid-August.

This marks a marked change from recent days, when temperatures inland reached around 40°C.
