Bread prices may soon increase. Cypriot bakers announce price changes.

Prices for bread and other bakery products may soon rise. Cypriot bakers warn that increasingly expensive fuel, energy, and raw materials are driving up production costs, which factories can no longer fully cover from their own margins.

The amount of the price increases and the date of implementation of the new prices have not yet been announced. However, Lakis Savvidis, chairman of the Pan-Cypriot Bakers' Association, said that the adjustments are expected "very soon." They could apply to bread and other baked goods.

Bakeries pay more for fuel and raw materials

Rising fuel prices not only impact the transportation of finished products, but also raise the costs of raw material supplies and the energy used in production.

According to industry representatives, the additional costs are already clearly being felt in the daily operations of bakeries. For some time, bakeries have been trying to cover these costs without raising retail prices. Now, more and more companies are reportedly unable to continue to shoulder the entire burden.

"The rise in fuel prices has also affected the cost of raw materials," Savvidis told ANT1 television. He added that price increases are expected in the near future.

This doesn't mean, however, that all bakeries will introduce the same price list from a given date. Product prices are not set centrally, and individual companies make decisions independently. Therefore, price increases may occur gradually and vary depending on the bakery and product type.

It is not yet known how much the prices will increase.

Industry representatives did not provide specific calculations or new bread prices, nor did they indicate an exact date for their introduction.

The announcement by the association's chairman should therefore be treated as a warning about growing cost pressures, and not as an announcement of a uniform price increase applicable to all bakeries and shops.

A potential increase in bread prices will be another burden on household budgets. Bread is a product purchased regularly, so even a small price change can be noticeable, especially for larger families.

Milk price without increase for now

The current situation in the milk market is different. Cattle farmers are also facing higher production costs, but current contracts currently prevent them from raising the price they sell their milk to processing plants.

The dairy industry continues to absorb additional costs and maintain current prices. However, producers are not ruling out changes if increased energy, transportation, and raw material costs persist.

For now, consumers have not learned either the new bread prices or their introduction date. Only the decisions of individual bakeries will reveal whether the industry's announcements will translate into price increases and how large they will be.
