The Kato Mylos Peach Festival is this Saturday. A whole day of flavors and attractions.
Kato Mylos Peach Festival will take place on Saturday, August 22. The small mountain town in the Pitsilia region has prepared an all-day program dedicated to one of its most characteristic products. It begins at 11:00 a.m. and admission to all events is free.
Visitors can enjoy fresh local peaches, traditional products, culinary demonstrations, bread baking, children's attractions, orchard tours, and evening music. Events will take place in the church courtyard, the old primary school, and the Rodakinia Cultural Center.
Kato Mylos Peach Festival from morning till night
Kato Mylos lies in the mountainous region of Pitsilia and is surrounded by peach orchards. On Saturday, the locally grown fruit will be the star of the village.
An outdoor café will be set up in the square next to the church. There will also be food, drink, and traditional product stalls, as well as a special area for children with painting and clay workshops. A photography exhibition dedicated to peaches will also be on display in the old school.
From 11:00 traditional bread from the oven
The first of the scheduled shows will start at 7:00 p.m. 11:00.
Until 1:00 PM, Giannoula Viktoros will be demonstrating the process of kneading dough and baking traditional bread. This is part of a program that aims to show visitors not only the product itself but also the ancient life and customs of the Cypriot countryside.
A special train will go towards the orchards
One of the most interesting attractions will start at 13:00.
Until 4:00 p.m., a special tourist train will transport visitors from the festival center towards the reservoir and orchards around Kato Mylos.
The local orchards are one of the reasons the festival is held here. The official Heartland of Legends project describes Kato Mylos as a village situated above the Limnatis Valley, in a landscape full of peach trees.
Peach desserts from 4:00 PM
In the afternoon, peaches will take over the main role again.
Between 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Chef Giannis Pratikakis will prepare three desserts using the fruits that are symbolic of the festival. The program also includes peach cheesecake.
The official Heartland of Legends website also announces other attractions related to local fruits and traditional cuisine. The idea behind the event is to showcase the various uses of peaches produced in this part of the island.
Attractions also for children
The festival was also prepared with families in mind.
In addition to art classes, the program included a musical story for the youngest, and at 17:30 the contemporary shadow theatre "Cyprus - a journey through our tradition", prepared by Eleni Papachristoforou, will begin.
Evening music at "Rodakinia"
The all-day event will conclude in the evening at the Rodakinia cultural center.
At 21:00 an evening of music with Liza Theofanous and Alexis Rigas will begin. The festival's official website states that the events will last until approximately 10:00 p.m. 22:00.
