Maciej Kulhawik has been returning to Cyprus for years. The "King of Wrocław" has performed for the Polish diaspora there.
Maciej Kulhawik, better known as the "King of Wrocław," is one of those Polish artists for whom Cyprus wasn't just a one-time visit. The illusionist and showman has visited the island numerous times, both privately and for performances. He also left traces of his subsequent travels on his social media.
One of the best-documented visits took place in November 2024. Kulhawik performed at a large Polish community picnic in Episkopi, near Limassol, organized to celebrate Polish Independence Day. Also appearing on stage were Justyna Zielska, Adrianna Biedrzyńska, Wanda Kwietniewska, and Krzysztof Jaryczewski.

"King of Wrocław" on stage in Episkopi
On November 10, 2024, the Polish Embassy in Nicosia, in conjunction with Cypr24, organized the celebration of Poland's National Independence Day. According to the embassy, approximately one thousand people participated in the event.
Following the official portion, the artistic program began. Maciej Kulhawik was among the invited guests from Poland.
The audience also had the opportunity to see Adrianna Biedrzyńska, Wanda Kwietniewska, Krzysztof Jaryczewski, and Justyna Zielska. Artists living in Cyprus and students from four Polish schools operating on the island also appeared on stage.
However, this was not Kulhawik's first encounter with Cyprus.
Cyprus also appeared during private trips
For many artists, a performance abroad ends with the flight back to Poland. The Cypriot story of the "King of Wrocław" is different.
Kulhawik also returned to the island privately, documenting his subsequent visits on social media. The photographs and videos showing Cypriot landscapes were therefore not exclusively related to the November event.
It's these kinds of returns that are most interesting from the perspective of those considering a trip to Cyprus themselves. The first visit might be for work, a concert, or an event, but then the decision is made to return at their own pace.
Who is Maciej Kulhawik?
Maciej Kulhawik is an illusionist, showman and performer known under the pseudonym "King of Wrocław".
The nickname is no accident. As he told the official Wrocław city portal, it was born during one of his street performances. The artist later decided that the simple phrase "King of Wrocław" was much more memorable than his surname.
His career has flourished for years on the streets of Wrocław. In 2019, the city's website reported over a thousand street performances. Today, the artist himself claims to have performed over a thousand times across Europe. He also competed in the World Championships of Illusions in Rimini.
From Wrocław to Cyprus and back
The performance in Episkopi showed the professional side of his relationship with the island, but his private returns tell a more interesting story.
Cyprus doesn't have to be a place you visit just once. A few days around Limassol can be your first experience of the island, and on your next trip, you can head towards Paphos, Troodos, Larnaca, or the east coast.
The stories of Maciej Kulhawik and other Polish artists who have appeared here many times show something else: not everyone treated Cyprus as a one-time destination.
Some came here for work and later returned for leisure. Others, after their first vacation, planned their next. And the photos they left on social media are today the best record of how they themselves remember their encounters with the island.
