Smart meters in more areas. Up to 20 minutes without power
Smart meters will be installed in additional parts of Nicosia and Limassol, as well as in four other towns, in September. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC/AHK) has announced the specific areas covered by the next phase of the mass replacement.
Residents should expect a brief power outage. For safety reasons, the meter must be disconnected during the replacement, and EAC states that the outage should not exceed 20 minutes.
Smart meters in Aglantzia
In the Nicosia district, work will be carried out in Aglantzii.
The exchange will cover the area between:
- Limassol Avenue,
- Aglantzia Avenue,
- Larnaca Avenue,
- University Avenue,
- Athalassa Forest Road.
The EAC does not provide one specific day for the entire area – the exchange program will run throughout September.
Two Kapsalos areas in Limassol
In Limassol, another area covered by the program is Kapsalos.
The first area is located between the Nicosia-Limassol highway, Agia Fyla Avenue and Agiou Nektariou and Kosti Palama streets.
The second one covers the area between Agia Fyla Avenue, Archbishop Makarios III Avenue and Petrou Tsirou and Apostolou Petrou kai Pavlou streets.
The September schedule also includes four locations:
- Lemythou
- Paliomylos
- Agios Dimitrios
- Agios Theodoros Agrou
The exchange will take approximately 20 minutes
EAC reminds that each meter must be temporarily disconnected from the power supply. This interruption is necessary to safely perform the replacement. should not last longer than 20 minutes.
The smart metering program is already at an advanced stage. According to data presented in July, approximately 390,000 devices were installed, and the Energy Agency (EAC) aims to further expand the system. Smart meters are part of the energy grid modernization effort and, in the future, will enable, among other things, the broader use of time-based tariffs.
