How to fly with a dog or cat between Poland and Cyprus? Find out which airlines accept pets, what documents are required, and how to prepare a carrier.

Exceptions are made for recognized guide dogs and assistance dogs, provided they meet the carrier's requirements. Can an animal fly with Ryanair, Wizz Air or LOT?
Ryanair
Dogs, cats, and other common pets are not permitted. Recognized guide and assistance dogs may travel on flights within the EU/EEA, subject to prior registration and presentation of the required documentation.
Wizz Air
The airline does not accept pets. Recognized guide or assistance dogs may be transported free of charge. Emotional support animals are not accepted as an exception.
FLIGHT
LOT allows the transport of animals upon prior reservation: small animals in the cabin, larger animals in the hold, or in certain cases as cargo. The number of seats for animals on flights is limited.
Transfer is important: All legs of your journey must be pet-friendly. If even one flight is operated by a carrier that doesn't allow pets, the entire connection may not be possible.

The type of aircraft may change, so it is best to select a transporter with a smaller limit or confirm the parameters for all sections of the journey.
Entry with an animal from Poland to Cyprus
For a dog, cat or ferret travelling non-commercially from another EU country, the basic requirements are the animal's identification, a current rabies vaccination and the appropriate travel document.
Microchip
The animal must be identified with a compatible microchip. Rabies vaccination cannot precede the date of microchipping.
Vaccination
A valid rabies vaccination is mandatory. You must wait at least 21 days after the first vaccination.
EU passport
When traveling from Poland, you need an EU pet passport issued by an authorized veterinarian.
Control
Upon arrival, the animal and documents may be checked by veterinary or customs services.
Minimum age: Cyprus does not allow the entry of dogs, cats, and ferrets younger than 105 days old. This is due to the minimum vaccination age and the mandatory waiting period after the first vaccination.
Prohibited dogs and cats: Cyprus prohibits entry to breeds such as Pit Bull Terriers/American Pit Bulls, Tosa Inu, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro, as well as certain crossbreeds. Restrictions also apply to non-domestic cats, such as some hybrids. Before booking, check the current list of veterinary services.
Travel from Cyprus to Poland
Before departure, owners should check the requirements of the destination country. A typical journey for a dog, cat, or ferret from Cyprus to Poland within the EU requires a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, and an EU pet passport. These documents must also be valid on the day of return.
If the journey takes place through a non-EU country or the animal is traveling without an owner, different procedures may apply. Non-commercial movement is generally considered to be a journey of up to five animals that are not intended for sale or transfer to a new owner.
How to prepare the carrier and the animal?
Good carrier
- is the right size for the animal and the line limit,
- is ventilated, tight and resistant to animal escape,
- has an absorbent base and a secure closure,
- is marked with the owner's details and the travel route,
- meets the carrier's requirements and, in the hold, also the relevant IATA standards.
Before the day of the flight
- get your pet used to the carrier in advance,
- consult your health condition and documents with your veterinarian,
- do not administer sedatives without a doctor's consent,
- check the forecast and temperature restrictions for carriage in the hold,
- confirm your pet's reservation on each leg.
Guide or assistance dog
Recognized guide or assistance dogs can travel free of charge in the Ryanair and Wizz Air cabin, but the airline must be notified in advance and required documentation must be provided. The carrier may require proof of training from a recognized organization. An emotional support dog is not automatically considered an assistance dog.
On Ryanair flights within the EU/EEA, your dog must have a valid passport or veterinary certificate and documentation from a recognized organization. The number of assistance dogs allowed on a single flight is limited, so please register as early as possible.
